About the Art
My work marries a deep passion for decolonization and reconnection to ancestral wisdom in the realm of spirituality and a fondness for the widely overlooked craft of broom making. With each piece I create, I aim to make something beautiful and functional that honors traditional broomcraft, while also incorporating magical and spiritual elements.
The broom is perhaps the single most well-known symbol of witchcraft and magic, and has been used in spiritual practices by cultures around the world since time immemorial. I hope my work stirs a desire in others to explore those practices within the context of their own lineage and culture, while also shedding a light on why and how those practices were lost to begin with.
About the Artist
Iām Maya Rose, the maker and mind behind Reflower Ritual. I live in the woods of Western Massachusetts with my partner and two young children. At the end of 2019, I was spending a lot of time deepening my spiritual practice and doing research in that realm.
After stumbling upon a broom-making workshop, I found myself fascinated and enchanted with the craft and the use of the broom as a ritual tool.
After the birth of my first child in 2022, I felt a strong sense of readiness to share my work and ideas that had been brewing within me for years. And so in 2023, Reflower Ritual was born.
